As the end of the semester nears, the Pi Kappa Gamma Executive Board would like to take this opportunity to thank you and the Packaging Alumni Association for their support throughout the semester. It was an honor presenting to the PAA, and we are incredibly thankful for the financial assistance that you have provided us with this semester.

The annual Pi Kappa Gamma Euchre Tournament turned out to be a success again this year thank you to the generous contributions from the PAA. The goal of the event is to connect our Packaging student body by creating a friendly environment for members to come together and network with one another. Pi Kappa Gamma’s goal is to create a family of students that share the common thread of their passion for Packaging.

This year’s tournament was held on November 4th at Dublin Square. We had another great turnout, with the majority of the group represented in the picture. We had numerous members comment on how much they enjoyed the event and cannot wait for the one next year as well. This event and excitement from our members would not have been possible without the support from the PAA, and for that our members and Executive Board are extremely thankful.

Pi Kappa Gamma values our relationship with the PAA, as your support and presence in our organization has allowed us to grow and further develop each semester. Thank you for all your help this semester and throughout the years. The PAA has allowed Pi Kappa Gamma to be an organization that unites students who share a love for Packaging.

Thank you very much!

Sincerely on behalf of the Pi Kappa Gamma Executive Board,

Alie Slagle

On November 6-8th, the Coalition of Packaging Professionals and Academic Connections (CoPPAC) was able to take 50 MSU School of Packaging students to Pack Expo International at the McCormick Place in Chicago, IL. This gave these students the opportunity to witness the world’s largest packaging trade show of the year! This trip was only made possible because of the gracious contribution provided by the MSU Packaging Alumni Association!

On the first day, CoPPAC departed from East Lansing, on a charter bus early in the morning, to arrive at Pack Expo at noon. Students then had the rest of the day to explore the show. They were able to tour the 10,000+ exhibits, listen in on lectures at the Innovation Stage, and participate in the NextGEN Networking Fair where industry professionals came to recruit students for cooperative internship and full-time roles. That night, students were able to enjoy dinner at any Chicago cuisine, as well as explore what the city had to offer!

The second day was spent with a full day at Pack Expo where students could pick up right where they left off the day before. Pack Expo was such a large event, that more than one day was needed to get the full experience! After a day at Pack Expo, students were able to network with MSU Packaging Alumni at Nacional 27 in downtown Chicago. Alumni from all different industries provided a comfortable setting for students to connect in a way that stimulated conversation.

On the last day, CoPPAC departed their downtown Chicago hotel on another charter bus, and headed to West Chicago and Inhance Technologies. At Inhance, students were treated to Chicago-style deep dish pizza, and toured the facility used to provide surface modifications and barrier technologies to materials. After a rewarding three days, the bus turned home, and students arrived back in East Lansing to take the knowledge they learned from this trip and apply it to the School of Packaging.

CoPPAC would like to thank the MSU Packaging Alumni Association for their support and contribution to make this event possible! It is because of the MSU Packaging Alumni Association that the MSU School of Packaging continues to excel and be the best in the nation!
